Little Moreton Hall
Little Moreton Hall is one of the finest examples of a medieval moated manor house in England and dates from the early part of the medieval period. Originally constructed between the 15th & 16th century, the moated site, along with the outlying prospect mound, is designated as a Scheduled Monument by English Heritage.
Armitage Construction were recently employed by The National Trust to erect a new-build visitor centre and shop within the existing extensive car park space. The project, designed by Wiles and Maguire Ltd, boasts high quality joinery works throughout including architectural softwood king post trusses internally and an 8m long oak truss window to the East elevation which delivers a striking focal point to the new development.
In addition to the construction of the new visitor centre Armitage Construction were also tasked with the intricate re-modelling of the existing shop within the Grade I listed country house to create a tea room and servery. The existing shop fittings were carefully dismantled and with close liaison between Armitage Construction and the end user the sympathetic demolitions and alterations took place. The careful restoration of an existing fireplace, hearth and mantle became the heart of the tea room which required the on-site hand-shaping of reclaimed brick to form the surround and hearth and the re-introduction of locally sourced stone to match the historic record photographs. The adjacent kitchen was upgraded to suit the increased demand and entailed the removal of all existing fixtures and equipment, the introduction of new electrical and mechanical services and hygienic wall and ceiling cladding in preparation for the new customized stainless steel kitchen fit-out.
The kitchen staff at Little Moreton Hall are renowned for their baking proficiency and they now have a dedicated bakery in which to create their culinary delights. Armitage Construction converted an existing workshop area, adjacent to the moat, into a self contained bakery including new insulated partitions and floors, new electrical and mechanical installations and hygienic finishes to facilitate the installation of bespoke stainless steel bakery and cleaning equipment. The project was completed on time and within the tender budget to high praise from the Client and end-user.
