Heritage Roofing
Heritage roofing - maintaining our iconic buildings
The UK is home to some of the most iconic buildings in the world, from stunning churches and cathedrals to historic stately homes. Each and every one of these remarkable feats of architecture requires regular maintenance to ensure they remain in the very best condition, allowing them to be enjoyed for generations.
Traditional Lime
Lime: it’s better for buildings – and for the environment
It is now fairly well known that cement is not good for old buildings and that lime mortar should be used. But why? What are the advantages and what are the disadvantages? In order to begin to answer those questions it is necessary to understand the nature of traditional building, the process by which buildings used to be built, and how it differs from modern construction, the process by which we build today.
Audio Visual
Audio visual equipment in church buildings
This guidance is issued by the Church Buildings Council under section 55(1)(d) of the Dioceses, Mission and Pastoral Measure 2007. As it is statutory guidance, it must be considered with great care. The standards of good practice set out in the guidance should not be departed from unless the departure is justified by reasons that are spelled out clearly, logically and convincingly.

Insurance
You need to ensure that reasonable precautions are in place at your church to keep it safe for those who use it. To do this, you need to think about what might cause harm to people.
You will then need to decide if the precautions already in place are adequate. If they are not, you may need to identify further action to prevent any danger. When done formally, this is known as a risk assessment.
Lead Roofing
Lead is one of the oldest materials in the roofing industry and is still commonly used throughout the world today.
Lead roofing is a traditional roofing method which has been used in the industry for hundreds of years, and is therefore proven to be extremely reliable. Lead roofing, and sand-cast lead, in particular is ideal for old buildings such as churches or historical renovations, whereas milled lead roofing is a mass-produced alternative, used for precision and accuracy in homes and commercial buildings alike.

Project Management for our Church and Heritage Buildings
CLPM was founded in 2004 in response to Charlie Laing’s frustration in refurbishing a house.
It became apparent that clients rely heavily on an architect or a builder to progress their projects. But the architect's strengths often lie in design, whilst all too often the builder's interests lie in completing the job to their own timescales rather than to the client’s satisfaction.
CLPM is NOT a building company. We represent the client and work for the client to ensure that the project is built to meet the requirements, is built well and is built efficiently. We look to find the right people to carry out the work for the client and then fight the client’s corner to ensure they get the job they want.
Charlie Laing worked for 10 years with an international building company on projects as large as $150million. The approach on these projects is to have a designated Project Manager, tasked to achieve the project to the satisfaction of the client. It is this approach that we now bring to our clients regardless of the size of their project.
We now have a team of dedicated staff from a range of backgrounds such ex-tradesmen or surveying, which enables us to offer services such as realistic on-site advice or integrated procurement and construction programmes.
“Whether you are a house owner, developer or architect we take the hassle out of your building project”
•We find the right people to do your work.
•We organise the prices and recommend who to appoint.
•We phase the work and make sure that the right people and materials are in the right place at the right time.
•We check on progress; take action where required and recommend on contractor payments to make sure that they are paid what they have earned.
•We keep you fully informed of progress and costs and tell you of any decisions that have to be made and when.
The extent of our service will depend on your requirements. Issues that we will need to consider are: how involved do you want to be; do we approach a builder to construct the whole project or tradesmen for each part; de we want the builder to purchase all materials or do you want accounts so that these can be bought in your name; do you want us to manage the finances of the project or will these remain in your control?
