Sir Walter Scott's Abbotsford House to become Scottish tourist gem in £10 million masterplan
"The appeal of Scott played a huge part in the success of the Year of Homecoming, generating £10 million for the national economy and demonstrating the continuing international appeal of the man and his writing almost 200 years after his death."
Lord Sanderson, whose Abbotsford Trust has managed the landmark since 2004, said the development would create "a financially viable, world-class visitor attraction that will bring lasting economic and cultural benefit."
Heritage Lottery Fund invests £10.5m in four places of historic significance
Today, the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced confirmed funding¹ for four projects in Scotland, Wales and England:Sir Walter Scott’s home, ‘Abbotsford’, in the Borders; Newbridge Memorial Hall in Caerphilly; a Tudor dwelling house known as ‘The Walronds’ in Devon; and the 18th-century Wrest Park in Bedfordshire. Initial support² has also been awarded for projects in Staffordshire, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Suffolk and Worcestershire.

LEAH Glover, 13, was rewarded this week for raising money for the Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust with the help of her pony Malcolm.Ailsa O'Connor, county organiser for the trust, presented Leah with the Whitbread Award for the most money raised by someone under 16. This is the second year she has won the award.

I read with great interest your article on lightning protection in the magazine and the changes in the standards from BS 6651/1999 to the new BSEN 62305. I would like to point-out that fortunately, there are alternatives to the new system that carry European Be International Standards and have done so for many years. Very few Church's, historic or listed buildings could afford the original full BS 6651 system, most in point of fact, have only part systems or less. I have always been aware of the cost involved especially in the case of Church's and Historic Buildings.
