Lincoln College gets newly carved organ case

img

A newly carved organ case, made of English oak from the New Forest, has been installed in the chapel of Lincoln College, Oxford. The beautiful new organ case was made by Devon-based wood carver and cabinet maker Laurent Robert who carved the pipe shades in the style of the chapel. The magnificent organ was originally built by William Drake Ltd and was installed in the chapel in 2010.

imgRobert was born in Auvergne, France and started an apprenticeship at the age of 16, learning cabinet making, woodcarving and french polishing. He came to England at the age of 22 and served a 5 year apprenticeship at an ecclesiastical firm of church restorers, after which he joined a firm of organ builders.

imgHe is now responsible for his own workshop where he designs, carves and builds a variety of objects such as furniture, organ cases, picture frames and any other project that uses wood including oak, cherry, walnut, mahogany and ebony.

Robert likes to give his clients the possibility to learn and realise their projects to the finest detail. He offers his services to private clients, churches and historic buildings.
