Lime render by Trendle Conservation restores Grade II Listed property to former glory Print E-mail

A structural engineer had already been called who was concerned that the gable end was coming away from the rest of the cottage and suggested underpinning and a buttress to hold the wall.

This listed property had been rendered with cement at some stage which had been causing damage to the structure over the years. Lime render was required to restore the property to its original status.

Somerset based Trendle Conservation were asked to come in and look at a gable end as the render was starting to flake on this Grade II listed property.

A structural engineer had already been called who was concerned that the gable end was coming away from the rest of the cottage and suggested underpinning and a buttress to hold the wall.

Careful removal of the cement render showed that the cob and stonework was being pulled away by the weight of the cement render. We have been able to gently remove the cement render and gradually rebuild the stone work behind using lime mortar.

Lots of careful work goes into restoring property to a state in keeping with their listed period.
