Volunteers return in CSR scheme
For the second year running, volunteers from construction and management consultant Turner & Townsend returned to Shandy Hall in Coxwold, North Yorkshire, to carry out maintenance and decoration of the exterior of the 18th-century parsonage as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme.
Building on a relationship established last year the team carried out work to improve the visual appearance of the building’s exterior, as well as giving directional signage a much needed ‘lick’ of paint.
The curator of Shandy Hall, Patrick Wildgust, who manages the site on behalf of the Laurence Sterne Trust, said: “As with last year, the efforts of a few willing volunteers enables a number of weeks of essential maintenance work to be carried out in a single day. This allows me to carry on with the day-to-day running and development of an existing events programme for the site. The efforts of the staff from Turner & Townsend are appreciated by both the trustees and myself and I look forward to this becoming an annual visit.”
Geoff Brown, area manager at Turner & Townsend’s Teesside office, said: “This is the second year a team of volunteers from our Teesside office has come to Shandy Hall to help out. It’s a great day for all and knowing we’re making a difference to an important historical site makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
Turner & Townsend has helped deliver a number of high-profile projects within the heritage and arts sector, within the Northern region and nationally.
