New sound and lighting company has over 80 years experience!

Exhibiting for the first time at a CRE event this week were a new company in the sound and light arena - new in name but with over 80 years experience in the industry!

In February 2015 Northern Stage Services acquired Lancelyn Theatre Supplies and Lancelyn Lighting to create National Stage Technology - a UK-wide stage, sound and lighting solutions provider. Northern Stage Services, Lancelyn Theatre Supplies and Lancelyn Lighting have over 80 years’ experience in the industry with an enviable reputation in the marketplace.

Northern Stage Services built its reputation on its creative flair and wealth of experience working on large, specialist projects across theatres, education, hotel and leisure and local authority buildings. Established in 1980 it has become one of the UK’s fastest growing stage, sound and lighting solutions providers.

Lancelyn was established in 1970 when founder Scirard Lancelyn-Green purchased redundant dimmers from Alexandra Palace – once home to the BBC news studios. It soon became a premier retailer and installer of theatre and stage supplies across the southern regions of the UK.

Here are a couple of examples of their work for places of worship and listed buildings.

Madina Mosque & Islamic Centre

The customer required a flexible system that would allow for prayers to be given from multiple spaces. The system had to allow for multiple sends including record send, radio transmission and also outdoor spaces.

Northern Stage provided a design, supply and commission service. We provided a digital solution by Symetrix which allowed for full 16×8 matrix audio control. Multiple control panels allow users of the system to easily select from 1 of the system presets and also adjust microphone levels if necessary. The system uses LAB:Gruppen amplifiers which have built in energy saving to allow the system to remain in standby until an audio signal is received.

APart speakers were selected for the project for their compact size, flexible mounting brackets, audio output and budget. The ground floor prayer halls use wall mounted OVO-5T models whilst the upstairs spaces use the CM-20T ceiling mount speakers.

Radio microphones by Shure and Sennheiser provided the Imam with the flexibility to move around the halls thanks the automatic feedback reduction on the Solus 16 mixer. Whilst fixed Audio Technica ES935SC6 microphones provide pickup from the Minbar and Pro41 provided a paging functionality.

Rochdale Town Hall

Completed in 1871, Rochdale’s Grade 1 listed Gothic Victorian Town Hall is widely regarded as one of the finest municipal buildings in Britain, renowned for its unique and detailed architecture. The Town Hall functions as the ceremonial headquarters of Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council and houses local government departments, including the borough’s civil registration office.

With a need to upgrade the audio system in the magnificent Great Hall, industry specialists National Stage Technology were consulted to propose a system which would provide improved audio quality for the wide variety of special events hosted, while blending discretely with the intricate hand painted walls and ceiling panels and stained glass windows showing an outline of English history from the time of the Norman Conquest to the reign of Queen Victoria. In this beautifully expansive, but highly reverberant and difficult acoustic space, improving speech intelligibility was the major goal.

With leading German manufacturer HK Audio’s range having served National Stage Technology well on a diverse range of previous installation projects, NST’s Matt Cassidy proposed another HK Audio solution based around CT108 enclosures from HK Audio’s ConTour Series. Teaming up with Neville Raine of HK Audio’s UK Distributor, on-site demonstration of the CT108’s ability in situ immediately convinced all concerned, delivering a significant improvement in quality, clarity and intelligibility.
